Balloons Purposes : -Try to help the Union -Promote Areonautics -Observaton balloons -Federal army

The things that are included in the balloon enterprise were telegraph sets, hydrogen genoraters, and telescopes over a 50 mile radius.

The air war all began with Thaddeus Lowe . Lowe was the first balloonist and his balloon was called the enterprize . His missions included Battle at Bull Run , Rebel Flank attack, and Seven Pines. lowe was the first prisoner of war. He was caught in the confederate states when he touched down in the wrong place and was convicted a spy!

Making the balloons had much help from the navy, seamstresses, and black smiths. the seamstresses used over 1 mile of silk for each balloon. The navy kept busy by making a squadron.and the black smiths helped alot my making sheet iron. The balloons were also made with huge steam engines, rubberlike material and baskets made out of straw.
